Computational Geometry

This column is devoted to non-crossing configurations in the plane realized with straight line segments connecting pairs of points from a finite ground set. Graph classes of interest realized in this way include matchings, spanning trees, spanning cycles, and triangulations. We review some problems and results in this area. At the end we list some open problems.

Computational Geometry

We consider four problems connected by the common thread of geometry. The first three arise in applications that apriori do not involve geometry but this turns out to be the right language for visualizing and analyzing them. In the fourth, we generalize some well known results in geometry to the topological plane. The techniques we use come from probability and topology. First, we consider two ...

Parleda: a Library for Parallel Processing in Computational Geometry Applications

ParLeda is a software library that provides the basic primitives needed for parallel implementation of computational geometry applications. It can also be used in implementing a parallel application that uses geometric data structures. The parallel model that we use is based on a new heterogeneous parallel model named HBSP, which is based on BSP and is introduced here. ParLeda uses two main lib...

Computational Geometry – 99102

Geometric computing is creeping into virtually every corner of science and engineering, from design and manufacturing to astrophysics and cartography. This report describes presentations made at a workshop focused on recent advances in this computational geometry field. Previous Dagstuhl workshops on computational geometry dealt mostly with theoretical issues: the development of provably effici...

Discrete and Computational Geometry

An astral configuration (pq, nk) is a collection of p points and n straight lines, usually in the Euclidean plane, where every point is incident with q straight lines, every line is incident with k points, and there are precisely b q+1 2 c symmetry classes (transitivity classes) of lines and b 2 c symmetry classes of points. An odd astral configuration is an astral configuration where at least ...
